Advice Needed.

Hi Pals,

Today, I would like to introduce to you 2 of my furry friends, Bi Bi (Shih Tsu) and Austin (Miniature Schnauzer). Aren't they handsome boys?

Recently, they have a new baby brother, Jayden. After Jayden was born, Bi Bi and Austin shifted over to stay at their grandma's house together with their mummy as she needed help to take care for the new born baby during confinement period.

Jie jie received a SOS sms asking for advice as their mummy said that both of them have been naughty and will not listen to instructions like they usually do. They were both paper trained but now, they would just pee and poo all over the place. Bi Bi who used to the the perfect boy for thier mummy will now bark back at their mummy when he was scolded for dirtying the place.

This has caused lots of stress to their mummy. Do any pup here ever face the same problem? Is there any good and informative articles that can help them overcome such behaviour? Please help! Thank you in advance!

Luv,

Snowball

Hi Snowball --

GOSH ... We will think about this okay ... I think it might be an adjustment period for your friends ... Tell their Mum to try and spend time with them away from the baby if she can find a tiny bit of time ... It is a hard thing for sure ... We will think more about it, K? Best to all!

Your Friend,

Putter ...:)

We are not too sure about this cos we didnt react that way when Nadya was born.

Our routine didnt change at all. We still get to sleep with mama at night on the big bed and during the day, we slept or lie beside Nadya cos mama allows us too. She trust us not to step over Nadya and she believes that we are great help to Nadya's development. Nadya was a good and calm baby that hardly cries and mama thinks cos we were always there to keep her company.

Perhaps they are curious.. Did their mummy introduce them to Jayden even before he was born. We were always sleeping with mama even when Nadya was in her tummy.

Hi Snowball,
I agree with Putter. They are still in the middle of an 'adustment' period. When my pawrents and I moved from our old apartment to the current one I was so confused. I didn't know where to go and pee for instance. Please give them a bit more time. :)

Yes, I was very bad when we moved from apartment to house. Even though I was trained at the apartment, whenever my parents went to work, I would go bathroom inside the house. They eventually had to crate train me again b/4 I got to be free when no one is home. It was hard for me to understand during the transition.

Hope that helps.

Hi Snowball,

I think the boys are just really confused with where they belong in the house now. Like others have said if their human can still keep up their routine and make some special time for the boys in the day to do some of their favourite things might help them settle in ok

Also you may want to read up on NILF (Nothing in Life is Free) - basically it means that us dogs have to do something first in order to earn stuff like food, pats etc. You should be able to find a load of articles if you google the term.

Hi Snowball it's nice that you care about your furry friends to find help for them. Mommy says doggies needed to know and want to know what is expected of them and need a routine. When routine changes drasticlly, another one must be worked on again. It's hard with a new baby but the baby needs to be included in a daily introduction time too. It won't take long if they can do the new routine daily with of course reinforcement treats! Special treats not their regular ones.

Hopes this helps & will keep them in good thoughts so it happens fast!

Love Licks & waggin tails oh & don't forget to pick up your BF award! xo

Yup, all of those above :P
It takes time for the pup to get use to a new member of the family.
They just need to show them that even though a baby is around, they still will be treated like before with the same amount of attention.

harlow snowball, maybe both of them had culture shock while staying with their grandma. i need some time to adapt to my new home when i first arrived at my current house from the previous. about the attitude problem, maybe they felt neglected?

From reading your post, it sounds like the boys have kinda like forgotten the whole routine in the house, their toilet place & their mom. Becoz they have been staying with their grandma for a long time, they probably are confused being back in their original home again. They are also confused, not sure & surprised to see another hooman appearing in the house so suddenly. Like they all said, they need time to adjust in their home again. Their mom should also spend time with them, play with them & so on. The boys should be given the opportunity to socialize with their new hooman brudder too. Let them get to know him instead of separating them from him all the time... I hope this advice will help them.

Hi Snowball,

Looks like you are getting lots of advice from other doggies - I agree with the things they said. I hope your friends are able to adjust well and get back to routine.

Oh my DOG - I love your pool pictures. You look so cute sitting in your life jacket, in the picture and in the video. It's too bad the pool was so busy - those other dogs sure looked like they were having a crazy fun time!

Love Clover xo

P.S. I really like how your hair was done at the pool! :)

Hmmm. I don't know. Do you think that they could be jealous of the baby? They seem to be looking for attention. Their world has been turned upside down, and they want it back to normal, so they are reverting back to puppy behavior so that they will get the time and attention they crave. Or not.

Hey Snowball,
We agree with River, have them check out the NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE way to work with the 2 doggies. Plus they are going through an adjustment phase, especially if they are now at the grandma's house. That's a big change right there & they will naturally be confused. The dogs will still need one on one time with the hooman away from the baby to make sure they don't become jealous & they should always try to have good things happen for the dogs when the baby is in the room, like bring the baby into the room & then tell the dogs treat time & give them each a small treat after they sit. Hope things work out soon for them.
