Fostered dogs. Part 2

Hi Pals,

Here are the other dogs we have fostered before.

Jacko. The first male that was sent to us.
Genie.
Our miracle girl whom we thought would not survived. Jie jie named her Genie caused she hope for magic to happen so that she will recover fully and magic did happen!
She came to us looking like a walking skeleton. She barely had the strength to stand let alone walking and her eyes were dull and lifeless when we first saw her. She was diagnosed with severe heartworm condition and also that she was suffering from Tick fever. Her blood count at that time was only 14% which is extremely low. The vet put and IV in her and prescribed her with 3 doses of ascorbic acid to be jab into her everyday for 2 weeks. As blood transfusion is too costly and its tough to arrange for a dog blood donors and there is also the risk of any complication that might occur after that, we choose to supplement her with lots of freshly cooked liver to boost her blood count.

At that time, the fridge was well stocked with Chicken and Pork liver that jie jie microwaved for her 4-5 times a day. Feeding her in small portions each time so that her body can absorb the nutrients better. All the other dogs went crazy over the smell of the liver but poor Genie being made to eat liver so many times a day, got sick of the smell and taste. When she refused to eat, jie jie got to hand feed her.

With our continue effort to treat her, her blood count finally went back to normal after 2-3 weeks. Although her blood count increases and she look more alive, her body weight keep dropping. The vet said that that was because of the heartworm disease. We have to pump her up as much as we can so that she can receive the heartworm treatment that couldn't be delayed further.

The vet was worried that if she administered both the Ivermec jabs to her within 24hours, which is normal procedure for heartworm treatment, Genie's body will not be able to take it. So, she choose to administer the 2 jabs separately. The 2nd jab was given 1 month after the first one. Then another heartworm test to be performed on her again after 4 months from the 2nd jab was administered to ensure before she could be pronounced to be free from heartworm diseases. Intensive care was needed especially for the first 2 weeks after the first jab (and subsequently 2nd) was given. She was treated like a queen and no other dogs were supposed to come near her.

To our delight, Genie survived and she later became the escape artist among the pack. She is good at finding holes in the fences and force herself through it so that she could go loiter around the neighbourhood but she will always come back to the house after 1-2 hours. We later found out that she had visited MY Mall herself and that is about 20mins walk from the house the dogs were kept.

I think she just miss her freedom as a stray but find that live with food served punctually everyday without fail too hard to resist, thus she came back after she had her share of adventure. It took jie jie and her friend a while to find ways to stop her from escaping through the fence but she is always trying to run out of the gate whenever she has the chance. On top of that, she also love to irritate Tracey to make Tracey chase after her.

By the time she has completed her heartworm treatment, all the people who had known her as a stray dog didn't manage to recognise her anymore, because according to them, Genie had always been very skinny when she was still a stray but she put on lots of weight after she had recuperated.

Sassy
She loves attention and always offer her paw to any and everyone she see. So, she was also nick named. Paw Paw.

She is a beauty, isn't she?
Sassy aka Paw Paw loves to give paw prints to all the hoomans on their shirt by jumping on them and pressing her paws on the shirts. hee...

Dicky
A very tall and handsome boy but he is extremely timid.

Tracey
The "Da Jie Da" ( female ganster head in chinese) of the pack, Don't she look totally like a Doberman?

We call her "Da Jie Da" as she will never hesitate to teach any of the pack member a lesson when they irritate her. She never like to be told off. After she came, she and Xiao Bai couldn't see eye to eye. Xiao Bai is totally no match to Tracey and she suffered a few bites from Tracey as she refused to recognise Tracey to be he pack leader and always engage in "Staring War" with Tracey. Xiao bai is always the one to loose her cool first by snarling at Tracey and Tracey will just jump and her and give her a bite whenever that happen but no serious injury has ever happened but Xaio Bai and Tracey was never left together without being supervised by a hooman.

Sasssy, Tracey and Dicky were believed to be siblings. According to the stray feeder who had fed the area they have lived as strays said that they were found together on the same day and all 3 puppies appeared to be of the same age. Jie jie believe that this could be a case where a pure breed female dog got mated with a cross breed and subsequently gave birth to some cross breed puppies which the owner didn't want to take responsibility for thus, the puppies was abandoned. This owner could just be one of the puppy mill operator. Cos the breeding farms in Singapore are usually located in very remote area and in such areas, there are often stray dogs around. From time to time there were cases where some stray dogs might break into the farm to mate with one of the female dogs that were on heat and when this happens, the puppy mill owner will euthanised the puppy at birth or get rid of the puppy through not too pleasant means. Isn't this world just too cruel? Sigh...

Poochie aka Xiao Huang (Xiao means Little and Huang means Yellow in chinse)
Poochie was a very dainty girl who will put on her best behavior when the hoomans are present and when they have their back turned, she will snarl at which ever dogs that happen to be beside her but she had never did that to Tracey. Probably she had learned the danger she will have to face if she do that by looking at what had happened to Xiao Bai. LOL

Xiao Bai and Poochie was adopted by the same family and both got along really well in their new home.
Maggie
She was found by the same rescuer as the puppies.
She was re homed several times (by her rescuer). One of the adopter even abandon when they didn't want her anymore. The last adopter, before she came to us, treated her badly. When we got her, we found her being badly infest with ticks and that she was seriously underweight!

Jie jie spent many hours catching the ticks off her and because of this, we have to apply Frontline spot on for all the dogs there to prevent the other dogs from getting the ticks and worse the illnesses the ticks might bring. This girl was kind of timid and love to be in the cage when she was having her treats.

Here are some random pictures taken when the dogs were playing.

Cookie loves to cheer for her nanny, Xiao Bai, when she was wrestling with any other dog. Cookie will be by her side barking and cheering her on and help her whenever she can by either nibbling at the heels or any part of the body of the other dog. She will always choose a safe spot where she can run away easily. This picture is a typical example of how to help her nanny, by giving Tracey a bite on the butt. LOL!

See how rough they were playing? I was never allowed to be out with the dogs when they were playing. Jie jie says that she can never trust them to watch out for me when they are playing like that.

Butt sniffing time. See how Genie was showing interest in Handsome boy Dicky?

Silly Sassy jumped with jump onto the table to escape being chased by the other dogs. The problem is that she do not dare to jump off the table on her own and jie jie or daddy will need to come to her rescue.
Xiao Bai, Sassy and Cookie resting under the tree.

I even celebrated my 7th Barkday with them. Can you see the 2 dogs that were behind me eyeing on my Barkday cake? There are many more around my that was not captured by the camera. hee...

By the end of this assignment, only a few were re homed. The rest of them were sent to an animal sanctuary that is located in our neighbouring country, Malaysia. Over at the animal sanctuary, they will be given proper care and a big place to roam. They no longer have to starve or worried of being caught by the dog catcher. I hope they are happy there.

We have more that 200 pictures of the dogs. These are only part of it. You can imagine how crazy my jie jie is over taking pictures of us pups.

That's all for fostered dogs. I will be back to claim over my own blog from the next post onwards. Have I told you that I had my fur cut and I no longer had my pony tails? Well, stay tuned to see my new look.

Luv
Snowball

Your Jie Jie is a wonderful person to give so much to all of those needy dogs. We don't even want to think what would have happened to them if she had not come into their lives and saved them. Give Jie Jie a kiss for us and tell her thank you. We love any human who makes "rescue" a part of their life.
